it continues to catch me off-guard how many supposed "open source-native" software folks impose a harsh morality with "duty to maintain" in the same motion as the libertarian-esque freedom value they see at the heart of the movement
we turned something that was supposed to be radical into exploitation as a service, and despite everyone saying "yeah it's broken", we continue to place the burden of responsibility on folks with the least capacity to carry it
i used to think it'd be cool and energizing to try to solve this problem, but ultimately i don't think that the economic incentives are ever gonna be aligned in a way where this doesn't ultimately hurt and disempower creators. sorta feels like the only way to win is not to play.
anyways when you rag on maintainers and feel like you are punching up, i'd encourage you to rethink that. happy sunday.
